The functional diversity of marsupial limbs is influenced by both ecology and developmental constraint

چکیده

Abstract Extant marsupials are less ecologically diverse than placentals, and this is reflected by placentals exhibiting a greater diversity of locomotor modes, including powered flight fully aquatic swimming. One proposed explanation for discrepancy that the development more disparate marsupial forelimbs prevented neonate’s crawl to pouch, which requires precocious forelimb climbing adaptations. To test predictions Developmental Constraint Hypothesis (DCH), we pursue comparative morphometric study on osteological traits mammalian limbs, with an emphasis functional differentiation limbs among modes. We apply multivariate analyses large dataset limb metrics sample mammals, placental limited taxa whose modes exhibited in marsupials. Overall, do not find consistent evidence support DCH. Diprotodontia serves as exception, comparisons their hind supporting Our results suggest developmental constraints may have some degree. Despite this, groups show unexpectedly high levels morphological relative same indicating ecological functions overcome macroevolutionary scale.

Sexual selection is influenced by both developmental and adult environments.

Sexual selection is often assumed to be strong and consistent, yet increasing research shows it can fluctuate over space and time. Few experimental studies have examined changes in sexual selection in response to natural environmental variation. Here, we use a difference in resource quality to test for the influence of past environmental conditions and current environmental conditions on male a...

the effect of functional/notional approach on the proficiency level of efl learners and its evaluation through functional test

in fact, this study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any difference between the effect of functional/notional approach and the structural approaches to language teaching on the proficiency test of efl learners? 2. can a rather innovative language test referred to as "functional test" ge devised so so to measure the proficiency test of efl learners, and thus be as much reliable an...

Developmental constraint on the evolution of marsupial forelimb morphology

Comparedwith the placentalmammals, marsupials are born at an almost embryonic stage, but nearly all of these neonates immediately climb or crawl to one of theirmother’s teats using precociously developed forelimbs.Marsupial adults also exhibit limited forelimb shape diversity relative to themembers of their sister group. That the functional requirements of this natal climb have imposed a develop...

in current study, 63 samples of bat populations collected from differ regions were used for evaluating the geographic variations. twenty cranial and dental characters for traditional morphometric and landmarks method on the ventral, dorsal skull and mandible for geometry morphometric studies were used. statistical analyses of traditional morphometric and geometry morphometric data indicated low...

the effect of e-64 on the developmental competence of sheep cocs during in vitro maturation

in the present study, the effect of e-64 at different concentrations (0.5, 1, 5 and 10 µm) added to (1) the ivm medium on oocyte nuclear maturation and developmental competence of ovine oocytes, and (2) to the ivc medium on embryonic development of ovine embryos were investigated.
